He arrived 19 years ago, and was believed to be around 26 when we bought him.
Our earliest memories of Doc include his eye-popping expressions whenever he saw trot poles emerging, as if he’d never seen them before! Doc’s cheeky character and lovely temperament made him one of the most sought after ponies in the yard.
He soon became an old hand in the school and naughtily learnt to walk, trot and canter by voice command- even making newbies look good!
In later years he became a firm favourite for walk on the commons, before he settled into retired life just 18 months ago by becoming a field companion for his buddy Z.
Many knew that he had begun to lose his teeth and was mainly on mush, so he began to thrive on his celebrity status: accepting treats from bananas to homemade stewed apples, Doc was spoilt for choice!
Doc won the hearts of everyone during his time at SBRS, especially in his later years when he championed every ailment that life threw at him! It’s been an absolute privilege to own such a super pony. Doc, you will be sorely missed, thank you.
